formoosa on Convoy: Blowtorched beef and Knife-Cut Noodles

The whole family had the day off for MLK day, so we did a fun late lunch on Convoy Street. My son, based on wanting to try something new and looking at the ratings, chose formoosa. BTW, they are too cool to capitalize the first letter in their name.

We had to wait a while to get in, and once they delivered my food, my wife had to wait for hers. And once they delivered her food my son had to wait for his. This was the biggest issue, but since we all shared our food, it actually made it into a kind of fun multi-course experience.

I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup and the krullers. It was fun to watch the server take a blow torch to the beef before he served it to me. My son and I found the broth to be pretty amazing. The beef and noodles were very good as well. The krullers were like $7, and fun to eat straight up or dip in the soup.

My wife and son got Pork Over Noodles and Sesame Noodles respectively. They each had really awesome thick noodles with zigzag edges. I think they are called Knife-Cut Noodles or dao xiao mian.

I really loved the Sesame Noodles, but I very much appreciated the pork ones as well. They each were glazed with the respective flavoring. The pork ones had a nice umami porky greasiness that was inspiring.

Eventually we got our Beef Roll, a delicious scallion pancake filled with amazing beef and cucumbers. My son went to town on that. He really liked his Mango Jasmine Iced Tea as well. I wanted to try the Chili Wontons, but that would have been too much for one visit.

Especially since the other server saw me taking a photo of my empty bowl and offered me the free dessert they do. They have little signs saying that if you post a review with a photo of your empty bowl, you get a free dessert. I chose the Sesame Balls. They were hot and indulgent.

    What a meal!

Our bill was under $85 before tip.
