    Air Fryer Apple Crisp Experiment

Lately, I have seen numerous videos of air fryer apple mash-ups floating through my social feeds. I do enjoy trying new concoctions in my Ninja Foodi so I Googled a recipe for air fryer apples. I landed on “Air FryerApple crisp” (I linked directly to the print version to spare you from all the ads on the main recipe page). I had all of the ingredients except ginger and nutmeg. However, I did have the cinnamon so decided to just proceed with just that and see how it turned out.

The rest of the ingredients are pretty basic: apples (obviously), brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, Old Fashioned Oats, flour, salt and cinnamon. Pretty solid line-up.

First you chop up the apples into small pieces. I kept the skin on mine as I thought it would be nice to keep that extra fiber. Then you toss them with the granulated sugar and cinnamon.

Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees and when it’s ready, put your apples in any oven-safe dish (these should also be safe in an air fryer). I had to use a kinda small glass dish I had so that I’d be able to close the lid on the air fryer.

Cover the dish with foil and cook in the air fryer for about 15 minutes. While this is cooking, you make the crumb crust. First mix up the flour, brown sugar, oats and spices (cinnamon, and ginger and nutmeg if you have them). Next you will add a 1/4 cup of cold butter. I cut mine up into slices first to help with combining them.

    Crumbled butter and oat mixture

This was probably the most challenging part of the recipe. It took some effort to get the dry ingredients and the cold butter to combine into a crumbly consistency.

Take the apples out of the air fryer and add this crumbly topping over them. Since my glass dish was already overflowing, I had to switch to dumping my cooked apples onto aluminum foil. I then added the crumbly topping.

Toss this back into the air fryer and cook for another 5-8 minutes or until the top is a golden brown. I cooked mine for a little over 8 minutes. And that’s it! Take them out and enjoy or add other toppings like ice cream. We just ate ours as is. It didn’t look beautiful but my husband and I really enjoyed it. Overall, it’s a pretty easy recipe and mostly uses ingredients you may already have in your kitchen.
