Friday night my son wanted to go to Regents Pizza. He had just gotten his math grade back up to an “A”, so we had to say “yes.”
Besides, we all love Regents Pizza.
We managed to park and get a seat. Both can be a challenge on a Friday night. Regents was bustling with a mostly college crowd, though there were some families—like us!
In the past we’ve tried their NY style za, but we all agree that the real treat here is the Chicago style. We always get slices, but this time decided to do an entire pizza.
We ordered
- Meat lovers Chicago Deep Dish Pizza
- Walnut Gorgonzola salad
- The Pig and the Goat (fried goat cheese with salami, apples and spicy honey)
- Drinks, including a very good draft IPA
We were warned that the pizza could take 45 minutes, but having been there before, I knew this was likely their usual “under promise and over deliver” stance.
15 minutes later and a quarter of a pint later my suspicion was confirmed.
I actually wish I could drink more of my beer before the food arrives, but oh well. I know my family disagrees.
My family doesn’t appreciate The Pig and the Poke, but I think it is pretty awesome. It feels kinda exotic for a pizza place and I think fried goat cheese patties are delicious, as is the apple slices with spicy honey.

The sopressata salami is sliced thin and wide. You can wrap an apple slice in the salami and dip it in the honey. That’s kinda fun.
The Walnut Gorgonzola salad was good as well. We’ve done the Fried Chicken Ceasar Salad in the past. That is very good, but I do feel guilty about a salad that reminds me of a fried chicken dinner.
But then, who am I kidding. I mean come on! I don’t go to Regents for health food.

We had decided to order a full deep dish pizza on the assumption that my son wanted at least two slices anyhow. We ended up with 8 giant slices and we took home half.
BTW, the slices heat up well, and they are even good cold. We didn’t regret getting a whole pie.

They offer burgers, chicken sandwiches, pastas, fries, sides like mozzarella sticks and crispy brussels sprouts, wings and salads.
The whole atmosphere is fun if not a little hectic. The music was one long bass beat that never really changed, but it set the vibe.
The servers are very good, but they do sort of rush you along in a very polite way. They don’t want you to be confused as to which line to order in—or have to wait too long for anything.
They are very efficient and always very pleasant.
