My son wanted The Kebab Shop again. We were fine with it—but were not going to make the same mistake we made when we visited the Encinitas location for the second time.
I wrote about our second mistake there in my post The Kebab Shop: Encinitas.
This time we went back to the Carmel Mountain location in Rancho Bernardo. The place is bigger, they play waaaay better music, and they don’t skimp on the veggies.
That sums it up, but I guess I can add a little detail.
We actually ordered a bit better this time. My son got a wrap as he always does, and my wife and I split a plate. But this time, my wife picked the grilled steak, which was better than the grilled beef kofka from last time.
With out plate we got a huge portion of delicious zingy hummus, pita chips—a real treat—and grilled veggies. I also ordered falafel and the Citrus Chickpea Salad ala carte.
The falafel is always good, and I liked the chickpea salad for $5.50. It’s the first time I tried it. If I were trying harder to eat healthy, I’d skip the falafel and the pita chips and fill up on the chickpea salad.

One obvious difference from our Encinitas trip was that the veggies were so much better. Another difference was that instead of playing Bob Marley on a loop, they actually had a cool Spotify Playlist, complete with a barcode if you want to grab it for your Spotify.
While we dined we were entertained with the following songs:
- Digital Love – Daft Punk
- Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears
- Love Control – Feed Me
- Cruel Summer – Ace of Base
- Dinosaur Dinosaur – CSS
- Funkytown – The Trammps
- Passionfruit – Drake
I should mention, as always, that the sauces are awesome. My son is sooo into the sauces. To be honest, so am I, especially the Cilantro Jalapeño.
